All Things Must Pass

... Unfortunately!
I just finished reading The Sweet Far Thing and here is my dilemma ... I'm done. I have a love hate relationship with books in general but more to the point sets. Don't get me wrong I LOVE books deeply. My big issue however is that they have an annoying habit of ending. A set however gives you hope... "There is another book after this. No worries they will be back. There are more pages to turn and lives to read".
But alas a series can't go forever. (Unless you claim to be the Neverending Story... which I haven't seen a lot from lately!)
It's odd though how attached you can become to characters (even if they are silly school girl characters with magical powers). When it comes right down to it I'm pleased with the way the book ended and am glad to have all the mysteries and questions settled and solved. But, I don't want it to be over all the same. This is the trouble, I read to know the ending but I hate to see it end.
I will now make up a pro and con list to finishing a good book (why? because I can!)
Pros
  • Having all the questions you had while reading answered and put to rest.
  • The feeling of accomplishment
  • The way you feel richer for reading it
  • Knowing that now you can move on to the next read

Cons

  • That feeling of missing all the people in the book (as irrational as that feeling is I often feel it deeply)
  • Wondering what the characters did next and never knowing
  • Not knowing where to go next

This feeling will pass in a day or two and I'll be off reading the next thing. But for now I feel mixed.
